For people looking to their without to reduce drugs, an increasing number of gadgets offer an alternative blood pressure.
The most popular are these deal with biofeedback, a technique that usually trained people to control things like heart rate and muscle tension, relieve stress. For blood pressure, biofeedback devices often offer a Zen-like approach with music and Visual cues lead to user through breathing exercises.
Some experts say that biofeedback techniques have a calming effect that long-term benefits could result even though studies have shown mixed results, and the devices can download hundreds of dollar costs.
In a recent issue of the journal JAMA internal medicine researchers, one of the most popular machines on the sample provided. The device called Resperate, uses sounds and melodies, to user sync and your breathing to slow down.
In the study researchers randomly 48 diabetic patients with hypertension, assigned to one of two groups. The device has been used at least once per day for eight weeks while the other was given a similar-looking Sham device. Finally, the study does not found that the devices had beneficial effect on blood pressure.
In another study, published last year in the journal of hypertension a team at the University of Oxford analyzed results of from earlier studies to eight, and found evidence that short-term use of Resperate device could lower blood pressure. But they discovered that five of the eight studies were sponsored or initiated by the manufacturer, and when these studies have been excluded from their analysis, the researchers found no overall benefit from the machine.
